Short films are slowly changing the world because of their simplicity and power of entertainment to their select audience. I have been creating short films for the past 5 years and along the journey, some facts have become a constant on how to create an amazing short film in 2022.

It all starts with an idea. You can have a million ideas some good, some bad, but without putting the idea to paper, it will never become a story. One thing I always advise young filmmakers is that you have to KISS.
KISS means Keep It Stupid Simple. No way your story has 20 locations & 200 characters and is a short film you want to create because it’s a ‘Crazy good idea’.
You have to KISS. Start with 1-3 characters, one or two locations. Write the script, keep it less than 6 pages. After writing, come back in a week and re-read it, because, writing, is rewriting.
Pro Tip: Write about something you can relate to; not something you saw in Fast & Furious. #BeRealisticAndRelatable

Considering you would probably want to direct this amazing story you have written, this is when you figure out which friend of yours should hold a light, and which friend would look good in front of the camera.
For locations, you may live on a nice street, that’s location no. 1. Your friend knows a guy, who knows a guy, who maybe knows a guy, with a house with a swimming pool. Know that guy. And finally, that one friend who has moved out of his parents and has a small bedsitter; that’s your house scene right there. Locations are locked and loaded.
…And yes, even though everyone knows someone with a camera, remember you have a very nice phone right there in your hand. Use it. Shoot.
Pro Tip: Avoid using money in production if you don’t have to. #SaveThatMoney

Yup, you have to learn how to edit. You don’t need to go to film school for this, simply get Adobe Premiere Pro, buy them data bundles, a cup of coffee & teach yourself how to edit.
People will not tell you this, but post-production is where the magic happens. The sooner you teach yourself to edit, the better your films will be. Once I knew how to compile and pace my short films, the more excited I got about creating content.

Get critics on your work, your opinion matters most but consider their views and see how to fix the issues and become better.

Pro Tip: Practice makes progress. The more you work at it, the more your skills will grow. #WorkHardWorkSmart

The fun part is the process. Believe that. I have created over 40 short films and 1 feature film up to date so I sort of know what I’m talking about. Also, film is fun, so embrace your creativity as fast as you can. What do you have to lose?

The tips are simple and clear, I thought I could start with the longest script, good camera and big screening.
From today, I’m gonna make simple scripts for short films.
For the editing part, Adobe premiere that you were talking about, do they charge?

No need, you have all the power in your hands. Use it.

..and no, Adobe is free, although there is a paid version.
